About

Md Mizanur Rahman is a sociologist specializing in international migration, temporary migration, and South Asian diaspora. Prior to joining IAS, he was Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of South Asian Studies, National University of Singapore. His recent book deals with international migration in Singapore. He has edited several books and published in peer-reviewed academic journals. Four of his journal articles were ranked among the top ten cited and/or downloaded articles in prestigious journals. He is a member of Migration Research Leaders Syndicate for the 2018 Global Compact on Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, led by the IOM – the UN Migration Agency - based in Geneva.

Associate Prof. Md Mizanur Rahman has been included on the list of ‘Who is who in migration studies: 107 names worth knowing’, prepared by researchers based at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), Norway. The report identified six migration scholars from greater Asia (Southeast Asia, South Asia, East Asia, and Middle East) and Dr Mizanur is one of these six scholars and other scholars are Brenda S.A. Yeoh, Min Zhou, In-Jin Yoon, Hong-zen Wang, Nasra M. Shah. Further details here.

 

International Organization for Migration (IOM) has invited the world’s leading migration researchers to join in sharing their expertise and knowledge in support of the 2018 global compact on safe, orderly and regular migration (GCM). Associate Prof. Md Mizanur Rahman is one of the few Asian migration scholars who has been invited to join in this IOM-led Migration Research Leaders Syndicate. The global compact will be developed through an open, transparent and inclusive process of consultations and negotiations and the effective participation of all relevant stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, academic institutions, parliaments, diaspora communities, and migrant organizations in both the intergovernmental conference and its preparatory process. With 166 member states, a further 8 states holding observer status and offices in over 100 countries, IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. Details about migration research leaders syndicate can be found here.
