Gary Jones is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at UBD. He is a former Director of the Institute of Asian Studies as well as a former Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. His main research interests are language planning, bilingual education and bilingualism.

Gary Jones is currently based in Da Nang, Vietnam, helping to establish the UBD-FPT Global Centre. This is a new venture for the university and involves a team of young Bruneian teachers as well as UBD Discovery Year students teaching on a variety of mostly language modules for students of FPT University as well as those from neighbouring countries.
