The Institute of Asian Studies (IAS) at the Universiti of Brunei Darussalam is seeking to hire a scholar of the humanities or qualitative social sciences with expertise in Southeast Asia. The appointment will begin in January 2018. A Ph.D. in Sociology, Anthropology, Geography, Economics, or a related social-science discipline is required prior to start of appointment. Rank offered is Assistant Professor, Senior Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. Area of specialization includes, but is not limited to, cultural studies, religious studies, language and culture, ASEAN studies, trans-Asian studies, globalization and post-colonialism. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate eagerness to take part in a multi-disciplinary conversation about issues in trans-Asian and/or ASEAN contexts.
The Institute of Asian Studies aims to become a major knowledge hub in a growing network of Asian-based research establishments, having already established ties with a number of universities and other key academic bodies in Asia. The successful candidate will contribute to both the Institute and Faculty Arts and Social Sciences in terms of research, supervision and some teaching responsibilities at both undergraduate and graduate level. Candidates will have a demonstrable record of excellence in research internationally and a proven capacity to initiate, lead and collaborate on research projects.
